If one were asked to name only one key technology that sets Alón's flagship
loudspeakers apart from the competition, it would be the Open Baffle Array.
Derived from concepts pioneered by Dahlquist Inc. (where designer Carl Marchisotto began his career), all of Alón's open baffle loudspeakers feature one or more cone midrange drivers operating in dipole mode, without an enclosure. This
system eliminates four major resonant problems that hamper all midrange
enclosure systems and cause the sound to take on a mechanical coloration:
1. Enclosure panel resonance
2. Enclosure air column resonance, due to air trapped in the enclosure, resulting in standing waves
3. Delayed resonance, due to sound retransmitted through the cone
4. Driver resonance, due to stiffness of trapped air causing the driver to resonate
close to its operating band
The result is an open, natural and clear sound with excellent depth
and soundstage performance.
We've taken much of what we have learned about control of resonance and applied it to our small monitors, which, although not Open Baffle Arrays, are voiced to match as closely as possible our flagship product.
